Physical Description and Energetic Associations.

Elderflower is a Tree that has long been used in herbal medicine for its respiratory and immune enhancing properties. The energetic signature of the flowers of this beautiful tree are reminiscent of the structure of the lungs and the flower essence resonates with the lung meridian. In colder areas it is deciduous, dropping its leaves and contracting with the cold, much like the lungs contract in the cold weather. When the warmth of Spring comes they expand to breathe in the new, warm, moist air of Spring. As we progress in the cycle of creation and reach the Metal Element we take the time to reflect on our creations.

Elderflower reminds us to breathe in the fullness of life and then breathe out, satisfied that we have created all we need and let go of that we do not.  As we progress in the cycle and we are reflecting on and refining our creations, we evolve on a soul level. The deepest letting go of very personal old patterns.

My Journey with this Flower Being.

Elderflower is one of my favourite trees and has been a companion where ever I have lived. I was enchanted to find out early in my journey with the plants, the special affinity the fairies have for Elder. From that moment I was hooked. I figured, plant some Elder, get some fairies. A little like the Fae folk who have a reputation for mischievousness, Elder can become a little mischievous planted in the wrong position. It makes suckers from the roots and can regrow from the smallest piece. Soon one elder becomes many helped also by the birds they tend to make groves of themselves.  A true survivor, it will grow just about anywhere, preferring a moist position but it did ok in sandy drought soil of South East Queensland too.  In Sunny warm Queensland, I did not get to appreciate the full beauty of its deciduous state. When the Trunks are laid bare and the structure of the tree can be seen clearly.

Now in Tasmania I can see it in all its seasons and enjoy the changes throughout the year.

I alternate from year to year. Sometimes taking flowers to dry and use, the next year trying to outsmart the blackbirds to take the berries. Drying them or making tinctures for use in the colder months. When the tree drops its leaves, I look to see if I need to make any changes to the structure of the plant, refining its shape.

Working with the energy of the Elderflower I feel like I drop into a magical world poised between the ingoing and outgoing breath. Where everything is possible and charged with creative potential. All I have to do is breath life into what I want to manifest. The Lung Meridian asks us to reflect and refine.  What is it that gives worth to our lives? When we are ready to breathe life into our creations, have we truly looked at what we are creating? Is this the best our ourselves that we are bringing into the world? Are we holding our breath, waiting for something? Bottling up our potential? Are we exhaling without thought? Letting our power blow away in the wind? Conscious breathing creates a power base for us to realise our truest potential, we take a breath and in the pause at the end on the breath,  between inhale and exhale, exhale and inhale. It gives us space to act from a place of conscious thought instead of reacting from old patterns. Here we can shape our world.

The Message from the Elderflower

Focus on your Breath. Use the rhythm of the expansion and contraction, to change your life. Every breath you take is a starting point from which to change the direction, flow and magic in your life. Practice breathing and sound meditations, refining your practice until it becomes your nature to take and use each breath consciously. Breathing creative energy into the things you value. When you speak, sing or make sound through the vibration of your voice, you create. You sing into existence that on which you focus. The magic of manifestation begins with Inspiration and is released through sound.
